It has been mainly used as a frame material for eyewear, but the problem was that it could easily catch fire due to friction. In Japan, it is stipulated as a regulated item under the Fire Service Act.

Nowadays, acetate, which is a less flammable substitute, has become popular, and celluloid eyewear has become rare.
