Frame materials and features

Broadly divided by material, they are classified into metal frames, non-metallic plastic frames, frames made of natural materials, and combination frames that combine these.

metal material

It's called a metal frame. Materials include gold/gold plating/NT alloy/titanium/nickel alloy/titanium alloy/stainless steel/magnesium.

non-metallic materials

It's called a plastic frame. Currently, a material called acetate is often used.

Natural materials

The typical material is tortoiseshell. Tortoiseshell is a frame made from the shell of a sea turtle called a hawksbill turtle. Export and import are prohibited under the Washington Convention, and because it is handmade by craftsmen, it is an extremely valuable frame.

combination

It is a combination of metal and non-metal. Acetate is often used for the front part of the metal frame.

A type of frame with a rim around the entire lens. The most orthodox glasses frame

Rimless frame (rimless frame)

A rimless frame with the temples and bridge attached directly to the lenses. It gives an impression that is close to the real face without damaging the impression of the face, but since the holes are made directly into the lens, the lens is easily broken, so care must be taken when handling it.

Half rim frame (Mizohori frame)

This is a type of frame that does not have a partial rim. Dig a groove in the lens and secure the lens with nylon thread in the part without a rim. The thread stretches and breaks easily, so it's a good idea to replace it once a year.

under rim

This type of frame has a rim at the bottom of the lens. This shape was originally used for reading glasses, but recently it has become established as a common frame structure.

Sports sunglasses have curved lenses that cover your face.
This is one way to reduce obstacles to seeing in sports scenes, such as light and wind.

However, on the other hand, when adding power to lenses, there is a contradiction in that the less curved the lens, the more natural the vision will be.
The more curved the lens is, the stronger the power, the more uncomfortable your vision will be.
In order to eliminate this discomfort, we perform power correction, prism correction, and in some cases PD correction based on experience.

However, since it was not possible to confirm the actual appearance in advance, both the customer and I were a little worried.

Explanation of lens characteristics

Common materials are mainly glass and plastic, and currently plastic lenses are the mainstream.
Each material has its advantages and disadvantages.

glass lens

Compared to plastic lenses, they have superior transparency, are less likely to be scratched, and are resistant to heat, but their disadvantages are that they break easily and are heavy.

plastic lens

Compared to glass lenses, they are lighter (almost half the weight), less likely to break, and have a wide variety of color options. On the other hand, it is not easily scratched and may change over time (discoloration, etc.).

polycarbonate lens

It is very hard to break and is resistant to impact, making it suitable for people who play sports. However, its optical performance is slightly degraded, so it is used in sports goggles, etc.

Lens surface treatment

The surface of the lens is coated with multiple layers to make it more comfortable for the user.
Although each is a very thin film, it has various excellent effects.
Depending on the product, it varies from those that come standard to those that can be added as options.

multi coat

A thin metallic film is coated on the lens surface to suppress reflections. You can get a clear and natural vision.

hard coat

The lens surface is coated with a hard film to prevent scratches on plastic lenses.

UV cut

It is impregnated with or kneaded with a substance that absorbs ultraviolet rays to block harmful ultraviolet rays and protect your eyes from them.

blue light cut coat

By reflecting or absorbing blue light, which has high energy among visible light, it reduces damage to the eyes.

water repellent coat

It is coated with a special fluorine-based compound that repels oil and water, making it difficult to get dirty, and even if it does get dirty, it can be easily removed by wiping. The smooth surface makes it difficult to wipe and scratch.

anti-fog coat

Clouding occurs when light is diffusely reflected by small water droplets formed by condensation on the lens surface due to the temperature difference between the lens and the outside air. The anti-fog coating is a special ultra-thin coating with excellent hydrophilic properties applied to the lens surface that converts moisture on the lens surface into a film to prevent condensation and fogging.

Scratch resistant coat

Scratch resistance is achieved by combining a multi-coat that improves the friction coefficient of the surface coating and improves its durability against scratches and pressure more than a normal multi-coat, and a special fluorine compound coating used in water-repellent coatings. mirror coat

A fashionable mirror lens with a mirror-like reflective finish on the lens surface. The front side is mirror and the back side is hard multi-coated. Light mirrors with a thin base color allow you to see the expression of your eyes, and the image changes subtly depending on the color when viewed from the front, the side, and the direction in which you view it.

Antistatic coat

Ordinary plastic lenses are easily charged with static electricity, and even just wiping the lens dry will cause it to become charged. The antistatic coating is coated with a special film (conductive film) that dissipates static electricity, making it difficult for dust and pollen to adhere.
